About the event
Training - Trauma and Suicide (NCPS Quality Checked)
Research has shown that there is a connection between trauma and suicide. Simply put: Clients who have experienced trauma may also experience suicidal ideation or planning at some point. This training day will give you hands-on experience in putting some of the theory in practice. We will cover risk factors and protective factors related to suicide, but also how it connects to trauma.
This training brings in a "live client" (a safe actress, who is also a PhD qualified mental health professional), so that we can actively practice with some of the theory. We will put the 3 steps of a 1st conversation into practice:
1. Say the words (E.g. "Are you telling me you don't want to live?")
2. Explore the risk (suicidal ideation vs. planning)
3. Safety planning

Trauma and Suicide - London
Trauma and suicidal risk often go together, as trauma hits us in our core and can uproot our very existence. We will explore myths and facts around suicide, your own views, and determine risk factors and protective factors. This is an opportunity to safely practice 3 different steps we can use in a session to navigate suicidal risk from a trauma-informed perspective, whilst managing survival states, as a “live client” (an actress) will be present.
